Wyatt was inspecting a communications facility in Alaska. Since he had little experience flying in small planes, he was a bit jittery when they approached a landing strip in a snow-covered valley.
The tiny aircraft bounced wildly in the turbulence as the pilot casually chewed gum.
“Uh… are you sure this is safe?” Wyatt asked, gripping his seatbelt like it was his last lifeline.
The pilot chuckled. “Relax, buddy! I’ve been landing on this strip for years. Piece of cake.”
Just then, a strong gust of wind slammed the plane sideways. The wings wobbled. Wyatt let out an undignified squeak.
The pilot smirked. “Okay, maybe not cake… more like Jell-O.”
As they descended, the landing strip seemed to shrink before Wyatt’s eyes. “That runway looks kinda… short.”
The pilot grinned. “Yep! Just gotta land it perfectly. No room for mistakes!”
Wyatt gulped. “And if you do make a mistake?”
The pilot shrugged. “Then I guess we’ll be making a new runway.”
The plane hit the ground with a jarring thud, skidding on the icy surface. Wyatt squeezed his eyes shut, bracing for impact… but miraculously, they stopped just inches before the snowy embankment.
Wyatt exhaled shakily. “Wow… that was the shortest runway I’ve ever seen.”
The pilot popped his gum and laughed. “Runway? Oh, no, that was just a frozen river.”
Wyatt turned pale. “A WHAT?!”
The pilot casually unbuckled. “Yep! Real runway’s about a mile back. But this was way more fun, huh?”
