A young naval student was being put through the paces by an old sea captain.

"What would you do if a sudden storm sprang up on the starboard?"

"Throw out an anchor, Sir."

"What would you do if another storm came up on the port side?"

"Throw out another anchor, Sir."

The captain raised an eyebrow. "And what if another storm came up behind you, from the stern?"

"Throw out yet another anchor, Sir."

The captain crossed his arms, clearly impressed with the young man’s answer. "Hmm, and what would you do if a storm hit from the bow?"

The student thought for a moment and replied confidently, "Throw out one more anchor, Sir."

The captain smirked, now fully convinced. "Well, if you keep throwing out anchors, where do you suppose the ship will go?"

The student straightened up and said, "To the bottom of the ocean, Sir!"

The captain paused, letting the silence settle for a beat, then chuckled. "Ah, so you've learned the most important lesson, lad. If you're ever in trouble, don't just throw out anchors—make sure you've learned how to steer the ship!"

The student, now a bit sheepish, nodded. "Understood, Sir. I'll work on my navigation skills."

The captain winked, "Good! And next time, try not to sink the ship before you get a chance to steer it!"
