A police officer, though scheduled for all-night duty at the station, was relieved of duty early. So, he arrived home four hours ahead of schedule—at 2 in the morning.
Not wanting to wake his wife, he carefully parked the car down the street, tiptoed up to the house, and slowly opened the door. The house was dark, and everything was silent.
Feeling proud of himself for sneaking in unnoticed, he quietly made his way upstairs. But just as he reached the bedroom, he noticed something odd…
There were two feet sticking out from under the blankets.
His heart stopped. "Wait a minute… there's supposed to be only one pair of feet in that bed!"
His police instincts kicked in. He grabbed his baton, ripped the blanket off the bed—and there lay his mother-in-law, snoring peacefully.
Just then, his wife came out of the bathroom, toothbrush in hand, and saw him standing there, wide-eyed and holding a baton.
“Honey… what are you doing?” she asked.
He blinked. “…I thought I caught a suspect.”
She raised an eyebrow. “At 2 AM? In my mother’s bed?”
The officer sighed, put the baton away, and muttered, “You know what? Maybe I should have stayed at the station.”
