A mortician was working late one night. It was his job to examine the dead bodies before they were sent off to be buried or cremated.

As he examined the body of Mr. Schwartz, who was about to be embalmed, the mortician noticed something strange.

Mr. Schwartz’s face was frozen in an odd expression, almost as if he were smiling. The mortician leaned in closer, raising an eyebrow.

Well, well, Mr. Schwartz. Looks like you went out with a good sense of humor, huh?

He then proceeded to check the body for any signs of trauma or disease, but everything appeared normal—aside from the strange smile.

Curious, the mortician decided to give a quick call to Mr. Schwartz’s widow, just to ask if there had been any unusual circumstances surrounding his death.

The phone rang, and soon, the widow picked up.

“Hello, Mrs. Schwartz? This is your late husband’s mortician, and I just had a quick question. I’m looking at Mr. Schwartz’s body, and it seems he’s got a big grin on his face. Is that normal?”

There was a long pause on the other end of the line before Mrs. Schwartz replied, “Well, that’s odd… He hated going to the dentist! He was terrified of it! I bet you anything, he’s smiling because he finally found a way to avoid a root canal!"

The mortician burst out laughing.

“Well, I suppose if you have to go, it’s good to go out with a smile. But I’m still going to make sure his teeth are all accounted for!”

He hung up, shaking his head. As he prepared to embalm Mr. Schwartz, he couldn’t help but smile himself. Sometimes, death really does have a sense of humor.
