While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant and resumed their trip.

When leaving, the elderly woman unknowingly left her glasses on the table, and didn’t realize it until they’d been driving for about 40 minutes.

“Harold!” she exclaimed. “I think I left my glasses back at the restaurant.”

Harold, already grumpy from navigating without GPS because “maps never needed charging,” grumbled, made a dramatic U-turn, and muttered all the way back about how forgetful his wife had become.

They finally pulled into the restaurant's parking lot. The woman got out to retrieve her glasses, and as she stepped out, Harold shouted, “While you’re in there, you might as well grab my hat and wallet too!”

She paused, turned slowly, and said, “Oh really? Well then maybe you should also get the dog. You left him tied to the back bumper.”

There was a long silence.

Then Harold said quietly, “…Let’s never speak of this again.”

And somewhere, 40 miles back, a golden retriever was telling a squirrel the story of his unexpected sprinting career.
