An old county doctor went way out to the boondocks to deliver a baby. It was so far out that there was no electricity. When the doctor arrived, no one was home except for the laboring mother and
her five-year-old son. The doctor, seeing no other options, asked the little boy to help by holding the lantern high so he could see what he was doing.
The boy, wide-eyed and curious, stood dutifully with the lantern as the doctor worked. Soon, a tiny baby girl was born. The doctor held her up, slapped her bottom gently, and she let out her first cry.
"Wow!" exclaimed the little boy, eyes big as saucers.
"Hold on, son, we’re not done yet," said the doctor. Moments later, another baby arrived—a little boy this time.
The boy gasped, "Another one?!"
The doctor chuckled. "Yep! Twins!"
The boy, now looking a bit pale, tightened his grip on the lantern and took a step back.
But just as the doctor was about to finish up, he noticed yet another baby making its entrance. He carefully delivered the third newborn and held it up.
The little boy’s jaw dropped. He slowly backed toward the door, eyes darting from the babies to his mother, then to the doctor.
Finally, he blurted out, "Doc... ya reckon it's the light that's attractin’ ‘em?!"
