A brothel owner, Diamond D, began construction on an extension of her building to keep up with her ever-growing business.
In response, the local Baptist Church was outraged and launched a campaign to block the expansion. The congregation organized protests, held prayer meetings, and even started a petition, claiming that such an establishment had no place in their community.
Despite their efforts, construction on the new wing continued.
The church members, feeling desperate, turned to divine intervention. They gathered every night to pray fervently that something would stop the expansion—a sign from above, perhaps!
Then, just a week before the grand opening, a massive thunderstorm rolled in. A bolt of lightning struck the brothel, burning it to the ground.
The church members were ecstatic. "Hallelujah! Our prayers were answered!"
But Diamond D wasn’t going to take this lying down. She sued the church for damages, claiming that their prayers had caused the destruction of her business.
The church, of course, vehemently denied everything. Their lawyer argued in court, “We had absolutely nothing to do with that lightning strike, Your Honor!”
The judge, looking over the case, shook his head and said:
"Let me get this straight… the brothel owner believes in the power of prayer, but the church doesn't?"
