The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray, "Take only one. God is watching."
As the children lined up, little Timmy, who was always a bit mischievous, took one apple and then snuck over to the dessert tray, which had a pile of cookies. He grabbed a handful and went to sit down.
The nun, noticing this, walked over to him and asked, "Timmy, what did I tell you about the apples?"
Timmy looked up at her innocently and said, "Well, Sister, you said God was watching the apples... but I figured He wasn't paying attention to the cookies!"
The nun stared at him for a moment, then smiled and said, "Well, Timmy, it seems you're a little too smart for your own good. Next time, try sharing your cookies with God!"
Timmy, grinning ear to ear, replied, "I’m sure He’d prefer cookies to apples anyway!"
