As she pulled it out of the oven, she gasped. It had collapsed in the middle like a sinkhole had swallowed it!

Panic set in. What would the church ladies think?

Desperate, she glanced around the kitchen and spotted a roll of toilet paper.

With no better option, she carefully placed the toilet paper roll inside the cake hole and covered everything with frosting.

Genius! It looked perfect—no one would ever know.

At the bake sale, Alice placed the cake on the table with confidence.

But just as she was about to leave, the preacher’s wife walked in, pointed at her cake, and said, "Oh my! What a lovely cake! I’ll take it home for the pastor!"

Alice’s heart stopped.

Before she could protest, the preacher’s wife picked up the cake and left.

Alice spent the rest of the day in sheer terror, dreading what would happen when they discovered the secret ingredient.

That evening, she got a phone call.

It was the preacher’s wife.

"Alice," she said sweetly, "That cake was absolutely delightful. The pastor loved it, and I wanted to ask—what recipe did you use? Because when I cut into it, I found… well… something rather unique inside!"

Alice nearly dropped the phone.

Thinking fast, she blurted out, "Oh, that? It’s a surprise prayer cake! The roll symbolizes… um… the continuous blessings of the Lord!"

A long pause.

Then, the preacher’s wife burst into laughter. "Well, bless your heart, Alice! That was the most interesting cake we've ever had. But next time… maybe leave out the surprise!"
