 A young Naval Officer was in a terrible car accident. Due to the heroics of the hospital staff, the only permanent injury was the loss of one ear.

Since he wasn’t physically impaired, he continued his career in the Navy. However, he was quite self-conscious about his missing ear.

Years later, he was up for a promotion to Captain, and three Admirals were assigned to interview him.

The first Admiral asked a tough tactical question. The young officer answered flawlessly.

The second Admiral asked a complex leadership question. Again, the officer’s answer was perfect.

The third Admiral, looking at him curiously, asked:
"I notice you’re missing an ear. How did that happen?"

The young officer sighed. "Car accident, sir."

The Admiral nodded, then suddenly leaned in and whispered, "Can you still hear well?"

The officer replied, "Sir, with all due respect, my hearing is excellent. But I do have one problem..."

"Oh? What’s that?"

"I can’t understand people who talk behind my back!"
