A fox sneaked into a farm and grabbed a prize rooster. The farmer saw him and raised the alarm, and he and his dogs started chasing the thief.

The fox, though he was holding the rooster in his jaws, ran as fast as his legs could carry him through the fields. The farmer and his dogs were gaining on him, barking and yelling, "Drop that rooster, you thief!"

The rooster, dangling helplessly in the fox’s mouth, knew he had to think fast. So, he looked around, saw the farmer getting closer, and suddenly had an idea.

"Hey, Mr. Fox," the rooster whispered. "The farmer is catching up! If he catches you, you’ll be in big trouble."

The fox, still running, rolled his eyes. "I know that! I’m running as fast as I can!"

"Yeah, but if you’re so fast, why don’t you show him how loud you can laugh at him? I bet he’d be really mad if he heard you laughing at him while you escape!"

The fox smirked. "Oh, that’s a great idea!" He opened his mouth to let out a mocking laugh—

"HAH—"

Before he could finish, the rooster tumbled out of his jaws, flapping wildly, and landed right back on the ground.

The rooster sprinted towards the farmer, who quickly scooped him up. The fox skidded to a stop, realizing what had just happened.

The rooster turned back, fluffed his feathers, and grinned. "Never underestimate a bird with brains!"

The farmer patted the rooster on the head and chuckled. The fox just sighed and muttered, "Next time, I’m sticking to eggs."
