Two men were out hunting, and as they were walking along, they came upon a huge hole in the ground.
They approached it and were amazed at its size.
"Wow, that’s one deep hole," said the first hunter, peering over the edge.
"Sure is," replied the second hunter. "I wonder how deep it goes?"
"Let’s find out!" the first hunter said.
They looked around for something to throw in and found a rusty old anvil sitting nearby. Grunting and straining, they heaved it over the edge and leaned forward, waiting to hear it hit the bottom.
But there was nothing—just silence.
Then, out of nowhere, a goat came sprinting out of the bushes at full speed, heading straight for the hole. Before they could react, the goat leaped right in and disappeared into the darkness.
The hunters stared at each other in shock.
"Did you see that?!" one of them gasped. "That goat just jumped in!"
Before they could make sense of it, an old farmer appeared, panting as he ran up to them.
"Hey there, fellas," he wheezed. "Either of you seen my goat?"
The hunters exchanged a nervous glance.
"Uh... well..." the first hunter stammered. "There was a goat... but it ran straight at this hole and jumped right in!"
The farmer shook his head.
"Nah, that couldn’t have been my goat," he said. "Mine was tied to an anvil."
