A Texan goes to Toronto for a vacation. He grabs a cab at the airport and tells the driver he’s heading to the Royal York Hotel.

As they drive downtown, they pass Queen's Park.

The Texan leans forward and says,
"What’s that big ol' fancy-looking building over there?"

The cabbie replies,
"That’s the Ontario Legislature, sir. Took us almost 5 years to build it."

The Texan scoffs and says,
"Five years? Shucks, back in Texas, we’d have put that up in a month, had room for a steakhouse, and added a mechanical bull out front."

The cabbie rolls his eyes and keeps driving.

A few minutes later, they pass the Royal Ontario Museum, its crystal-like structure glinting in the sunlight.

"What’s that now?" asks the Texan.

"That’s the ROM—Royal Ontario Museum," says the cabbie. "Took 7 years to design and build."

The Texan lets out a whistle.
"Seven years? Land sakes, we could’ve built two of those during halftime at a Cowboys game."

Now the cabbie’s getting a little annoyed but keeps his cool.

They finally reach the Royal York Hotel, a massive, elegant structure towering over the street.

The Texan peers out the window, jaw dropping.
"Well I’ll be... what in the world is that?"

The cabbie, without missing a beat, says:
"Dunno, wasn't here this morning."
