On a hot summer day, a little boy and his mother were inside their lake house. The little boy decided to go for a swim in the lake behind their house. He was really excited to jump into the cool water, so he quickly ran out the door, stripped down to his swim trunks, and jumped in.

As he splashed around, he felt like the king of the lake, doing his best impression of a professional swimmer—though in reality, it was more of a flailing dog paddle.

His mother, watching from the porch, smiled and shook her head.

After a few minutes, she called out, "Sweetie, don’t go too far!"

But the little boy, filled with confidence, shouted back, "Mom, I’m a great swimmer! I can swim forever!"

Just then, he saw something moving in the water. His excitement turned into curiosity.

"Mom, do we have pet alligators?"

His mother’s eyes widened. "NO! GET OUT OF THE WATER!"

Now, the boy had never swum so fast in his life. He made it to the dock, panting, and turned around to see…

His mother sighed in relief, and the little boy puffed out his chest. "See? I was just testing my emergency escape speed!"

His mother smirked. "And how did that go?"

"Not bad, but I think I need a snack before my next test run."
