Harvey is standing in a bar in Darwin, drinking, when his mate walks in. They get to talking, and at 10:00, Harvey says, "It's been great, but I better get home. The wife doesn't like me to stay out late drinking."
His mate raises an eyebrow. "What, you really listen to her? You don't sneak in after a few drinks?"
Harvey shrugs, "Nah, mate. If I don’t leave on time, she gets all upset and gives me the silent treatment."
His mate laughs, "Silent treatment, eh? So what do you do then?"
Harvey grins, "Well, when I get home, I just say, 'Darling, I’m so sorry for being late, but I've got a solution.'”
His mate is curious. "A solution? What do you mean?"
Harvey winks. "I give her a choice: she can either forgive me, and we can have a nice evening together, or she can keep the silent treatment going, and I’ll go to bed early."
The mate laughs and says, "I don’t get it. How does that work?"
Harvey leans in and whispers, "It’s simple: if she picks silent treatment, I’m in for a long night of pretending to sleep. But if she forgives me, I get to watch TV guilt-free!"
The mate chuckles, shaking his head. "That’s brilliant! So you win either way!"
Harvey takes a sip of his drink, "Exactly! And, honestly, I've perfected the art of the 'I'm sorry' speech. Even if she doesn’t buy it, she can’t stay mad for long. I make her laugh, and it’s all smooth sailing."
His mate nods. "You’re a genius, Harvey. You’ve cracked the code!"
Harvey finishes his drink and heads for the door, "Yep, and remember, mate—sometimes, it’s the little things that keep the peace!"
