A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.

The first frog, hearing this, immediately gave up and sat down in despair. "We're finished," he croaked. "No one’s ever going to get us out of here." He closed his eyes and waited for the inevitable.

But the second frog, full of determination, kept trying to jump out of the pit, leaping as high as he could. His friends above shouted, "Stop! It's impossible! You're too deep in!"

But the frog didn’t listen. He kept leaping, with every ounce of strength in his little legs, determined to get out.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, the frog made one last, massive jump—and he leaped right out of the pit!

The other frogs stared in disbelief. One of them called down, "How did you do it? We told you it was impossible!"

The frog, panting but smiling, said, "Well, I couldn’t hear you. I’m actually… deaf!"

The group of frogs blinked in confusion.

The frog explained, "I thought you were cheering me on!"

The frogs, now feeling guilty, asked, "Wait a second… if you couldn’t hear us, why did you keep jumping?"

The frog grinned and shrugged. "Because I thought you were saying, 'You can do it! Keep going!' "
